There might not be a more popular couple in country music than Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo.
The big fella is one of the hottest acts going and is currently out touring with Post Malone. Meanwhile, Bunnie Xo has become a star in her own right with her popular “Dumb Blonde” podcast. One of the great things about being a star is that people look up to you. They pay attention to you. That’s also one of the bad things about being a star. People pay attention to you, sometimes to a point of obsession. Fan, after all, is short for fanatic.
And when folks become obsessed about your life, they talk, which is what led to Bunnie recently breaking her silence on a rumor floating around about the couple.
That rumor? Well, it seems like enough folks have said they were in an open marriage that Bunnie felt the need to address it.
“You guys are clipping clips from like six years ago,” she said. “One of them, finally, there was a clip that went around that said if I want to sleep with other men, I can. And people have just ran with this clip for years, and I know that I have addressed me and my husband’s situation. I don’t understand what part of we are not in an open relationship that people cannot comprehend.
“The only thing that we don’t do, though, is try to control the other person,” she continued. “If I want to go sleep with another man, he’s not going to be like, ‘No, you’re mine.’ You can’t do that to people. Same goes for like if there was another woman, but this is all in the past. We have completely stopped all of those shenanigans because you can’t trust anybody in the world.”
Bunnie said that “back in the day, that was how we looked at our relationship.”
“We don’t want to tell each other what we can and can’t do,” she said. “We have free will. That is a huge difference from having an open relationship.”
She went on to say that prior to their relationship, Jelly Roll had “never been in a real relationship.”
“Granted, he had been in a couple of 10-year relationships, but he had cheated on every one of them,” she said. “I had been cheated on, and I was in sex work. How am I going to be in sex work having sugar daddies, telling my husband, ‘No, you can’t sleep with other people.’ Like, you guys just don’t see the bigger picture.”
She said that people often ask about their religion when discussing the topic.
“Yes, we are both Christians,” Bunnie said. “We love Jesus, and that is why we have changed the uniform of our relationship. It was never open for us to have to close it. I think that is where people don’t understand because six years ago we were just learning how to talk to the internet. Everybody and their mom runs with that clip, but I’m so happy because one clip finally posted the whole clip.
“People are going to hear what they want to hear,” she continued. “The majority of the time, they’ll clip that, if I want to go sleep with other people, and it is so funny to me because we have brought more women into our relationship than ever any men, you know what I’m saying.
“They are like, ‘Poor Jelly. She just cheats on him all the time.’ It’s like, no. If you guys only knew.”
Her request was for fans to put it to rest.
