MISSOULA, Mt. — The Montana men's tennis team returned to Missoula on Tuesday as newly crowned Big Sky champions after defeating top-seeded Northern Arizona in the Big Sky Championship. The team gathered inside the Adams Center to learn their first opponent in the NCAA Tournament.
Montana drew the third-seeded Texas Longhorns, who were runners-up in last year's national title game against TCU. The Longhorns also claimed the national championship in 2019. Despite the formidable opponent, Big Sky Coach of the Year Jason Brown and his team are ready to embrace their roles as underdogs.
"Love getting the 3 seed. We have nothing to lose. This is the equivalent to playing Duke in basketball. You get to go get after it and make some memories with these guys. You never know what happens on game day," said Brown.
Big Sky Freshman of the Year Duncan McCall expressed excitement about the opportunity, saying, "It means everything. I mean this was our goal at the start of the season especially in my first year. Some guys never get to do that. I'm super excited and I'll just be ready for every challenge that comes my way."
This marks Montana's second-ever NCAA Tennis Tournament appearance.
