Joanna Donnelly signs off from RTÉ Weather after a decade

Meteorologist Joanna Donnelly has said she has presented her final weather forecast on RTÉ One after nearly 10 years on air.

The 54-year-old signed off at the end of Monday night's Nine O'Clock News, saying simply: "This is my last forecast."

Later, in a post shared on Instagram Stories, the former Dancing with the Stars contestant said leaving had "nothing to do with my work product".

"I've given the very best I could possibly give to the weather forecast so I hope anybody that’s wondering what happened [knows] it wasn’t the forecast."

Donnelly has worked with Met Éireann for nearly 30 years, with the last 10 spent presenting on RTÉ.

When asked for comment on Ms Donnelly's announcement, Met Éireann said it "does not comment on individual employees, we appreciate the dedication and commitment of all staff in the continued delivery of weather and climate services".

Joanna Donnelly recently took part in RTÉ's Dancing with the Stars

Reflecting on her long career, Ms Donnelly said the years had "just gone by in the blink of an eye" and spoke about discussing her next steps with her husband, Harm.

"I broke it down with my husband, the years that I spent working before I was a forecaster, and then as an early forecaster, as a novice forecaster with my small children, and then my years struggling with infertility, and then I went on TV."

She also explained that the role gave her the opportunity to have some once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

"I've gotten so much out of it, not least Dancing With the Stars, which I really, really enjoyed."

Teasing what the future has in store, she said: "Now what? I don't know. We'll see. We'll see what happens next. Chapter three."
