A NEW cafe is launching in Cirencester this week.

Phoenix Café is a new coffee shop in Cirencester and is run by a Ukrainian family - Olena, Andrii, Alina, Kris, grandparents Zina and Anatoli and little Ihor and Elina.

Together, they have built Phoenix Café - believed to be the first Ukrainian café in Gloucestershire - from the ground up.

The coffee shop opens on Friday, April 4.

The enterprising family have worked to convert what was previously a children’s clothing store in The Woolmarket to a welcoming cafe for not only the Ukrainian community but anyone who wants to enjoy homemade cakes and great coffee.

Alina is a professional barista with extensive knowledge and experience in crafting coffee.

Her mother Olena has a passion for artistic baking of unique, handcrafted pastries made with carefully-selected ingredients.

Alina’s father Andrii is a talented cook with traditional culinary skills, preparing homemade dishes from Ukraine alongside his mother Zina.

Zina’s husband, Anatoli is a jack of all trades who has put immense effort into the construction and renovation of the café.

Meanwhile, Kris, originally from Poland, is Alina’s life partner, as well as the business manager responsible for marketing, legal matters and keeping everything on track.

The majority of the family all came to England in 2022 and were supported by Fairford couple Clive and Catherine Elliott.

From the beginning of their journey in England, the family dreamed of starting a family business that would allow them to give back to the community while embracing the culture of their new country.

Their shared goal is to provide a welcoming place where people can feel at home.
