Two wrecks that sank in mysterious circumstances along a stretch of river known as the Bermuda Triangle of the Broads' could take three weeks to recover.

The Broads Authority has warned boaters to take caution when travelling along the River Yare between Reedham and the Berney Arms.

Starting on Tuesday, dive teams will carry out new investigations of the pair of sunken vessels, which could take until April 18 to recover.

Work will be carried out between 7am and 5pm and boaters have been told to "exercise great care and obey signage" while the wreck recovery takes place.

This remote stretch of river is becoming notorious for the number of vessels sinking within a three-mile radius.

At the start of the year, a 66ft craft sank to the bottom of the Yare near Polkey's Mill - a 19th century drainage mill - about 2.5 miles downstream from Reedham.

In February, a smaller 39ft yacht sank near the mouth of Breydon Water at Berney Arms.

It has prompted comparisons with the Bermuda Triangle, an area in the western Atlantic Ocean that became notorious due to the high number of aircraft and ships that have disappeared under supposedly mysterious circumstances.

The BA has employed contractors to carry out the salvage of both boats.

Military-grade floats and a crane will need to be used to recover the 66ft boat at Polkey's Mill, which exceptionally heavy due to its concrete hull.

A Broads Authority spokesman has said it will cost £72,000 to remove the two boats from the depths of the Yare.

The agency will seek to retrieve the costs from the owners or their insurance companies.
