IOC strips Azerbaijani athlete of Beijing medal after doping re-test

PanARMENIAN.Net - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) stripped 10 athletes, including Azerbaijan's Vitaliy Rahimov, of their Beijing 2008 Olympic medals on Thursday, November 17, after they tested positive for banned substances.

Besides, Azeri weightlifter Nizami Pashaev together with five other 2008 Games athletes, who did not finish on the podium, were also retroactively disqualified from their events, Azeri media report.

In total, 98 athletes were caught in the IOC’s first two waves of re-tests from Beijing and London and the results of a third and fourth wave are still to come.
